Stuart is in his 50s and was born in Ipswich.  He has lived in Felixstowe since the mid-1990s.  He has represented Felixstowe North and Trimley Division (which includes the Walton area of Felixstowe and the Parishes of Trimley St Mary and St Martin) at Suffolk County Council since 2017, and was successfully re-elected in May 2021.

He has also been a District Councillor since 2011, previously at Suffolk Coastal District Council and now on the new East Suffolk Council, representing Western Felixstowe Ward.  He serves on the Planning Committee, and following the May 2019 election he was appointed Chairman of the Scrutiny Committee. Stuart is also a Town Councillor, representing Felixstowe Port Ward, where he is currently Chairman of the Planning and Environment Committee.

Stuart has always been passionate about politics and is currently Chairman of Felixstowe Branch Conservatives. His other interests include reading especially history and biographies, and walking.
